The milestone guide
Is your little one on track?
Children develop at their own pace — these windows are wide, and being a few weeks "late" usually means nothing. This guide shows what's typical, and the gentle signs that a quick check is worthwhile. When in doubt: trust your instinct and ask. That's what we're here for.
Rolling over
4–6 monthsWhat's typical
- Rolls tummy-to-back first, then back-to-tummy
- Lifts head and chest high during tummy time
- Reaches for toys with both hands
Worth a check with us if…
- No rolling either way by 7 months
- Head still very wobbly at 5 months
- Strongly prefers looking to one side, or a flat spot is forming
Sitting
6–9 monthsWhat's typical
- Sits without hands for support by ~8–9 months
- Reaches for toys while sitting without toppling
- Catches themselves with their arms when tipping
Worth a check with us if…
- Can't sit even with support by 9 months
- Always slumps or falls to the same side
- Feels very stiff or very floppy when you sit them up
Crawling
8–11 monthsWhat's typical
- Moves on hands and knees (bottom-shuffling is a normal variant)
- Gets in and out of sitting on their own
- Crosses the room to reach what they want
Worth a check with us if…
- Not moving across the floor by 12 months (any style counts)
- Drags one side of the body while crawling
- Only ever 'commando crawls' with legs trailing after 12 months
Standing
9–12 monthsWhat's typical
- Pulls to stand at the sofa, then cruises along it
- Stands holding your hands, taking weight happily
- Lowers back to the floor with control
Worth a check with us if…
- Not pulling to stand by 13–14 months
- Stands only on tiptoes, or legs cross like scissors
- Legs give way or won't take weight
Walking
12–15 monthsWhat's typical
- First independent steps between 11 and 15 months
- Walks well, even if wobbly, by 16–17 months
- Squats to pick up toys and stands back up
Worth a check with us if…
- Not walking independently by 18 months
- Persistent tiptoe walking after walking is established
- Frequent falls that aren't improving month on month
Running & jumping
2 years +What's typical
- Runs (stiffly at first), kicks a ball, climbs furniture
- Jumps with both feet by ~2.5 years
- Walks up stairs holding a rail by 2, alternating feet by 3
Worth a check with us if…
- Still walks with a wide, unsteady stagger at 2.5 years
- Can't jump with both feet by 3 years
- Noticeably clumsier than friends, avoids playground play
Late on a milestone, or just not sure?
A milestone check is quick and gentle — and either reassures you or starts help early. Both are wins.
